WHO WE HELP

Furnish a Future serves displaced people in Barcelona, Spain. Refugees, asylum seekers, and other such individuals who have been forced to flee their home are all considered displaced people. Many have endured great hardship and risk to life prior to arriving in Barcelona. They have a short period of time to learn the language, gain job skills as needed, and find housing in their host country. Learn about the worldwide refugee crisis.

WHAT WE DO

Furnish a Future accepts gently-used furniture and appliances from families at Barcelona area international schools and provides it to refugees seeking to establish a new life in Barcelona. Many families at international schools stay temporarily due to job assignments or other lifestyle reasons. When these families are preparing to move back home or to another country, Furnish a Future gives them the opportunity to donate the furniture that they are not able to take with them to their next home. This recycling of furniture not only benefits all families involved but builds an engaged community and promotes sustainability.

HOW WE WORK

Furnish a Future accepts and picks up and delivers furniture donations only in Barcelona and the immediate metropolitan area. We collect donated furniture throughout the year on a per-request basis. Families that would like to donate furniture simply submit a furniture donation form. After making sure that all furniture is in good condition, Furnish a Future then coordinates and schedules approved donations for pick up. If there is an immediate need, the furniture is directly transported to the receiving family. If there is no immediate need, the furniture is sent to a small storage facility that has been generously donated to our project. Jose, a refugee himself, is a critical component of our operations, as the driver collecting and delivering all of the furniture. We request families donating furniture to make a 35-50 euro contribution to cover our pick up and transportation costs.

Furnish a Future covers a gap on the refugee and migrant accommodation needs, which very few projects are addressing. It also supports on the reusing/recycling movement.”
